Taping it like back in the 80s
I am pretty sure the average age of my readers is older than me so if I mention mix tapes and the 80s it will bring back fine memories of those crazy pre-internet days when if you wanted to steal music you had to sit and wait for the song to come on the radio and be quick with the Record button. Actually, all this has nothing to with what I will write now but anyway my topic is tape...the sticky kind.
My Tufo Flexus Cubus arrived along with a load of their tubular gluing tape. It seems like Cyclecomponents is one of the last places still carrying it. A couple years ago when I was concerned, I emailed Tufo and asked why they no longer sold their cyclocross tape and their response was that I should not use tape for CX at all. But since then they have released MTB tires and gluing tape for those and that also involves mud and wet. So I was delighted to open the tires and see instructions inside for how to use their gluing tape. So I see no point in opening any glue tubes this year again.
I never had any trouble with the tape before but of course I am not using extremely low tire pressures. I was always around 2.7 bar which is certainly better than the 3 bar I have with the clinchers. There is always a tradeoff sooner or later so I will stick with what works for me. The last time I use tubes was in Sthlm 2 years ago and the tape is still holding. I just remember how fast the Ridley was that weekend. Yes...bring on some speed.
